Embodied
Impro Choir

Singing with body and soul

Start: January 13, 2026

Singing puts you in a good mood.

And it brings people together.

Not only has this been proven by numerous studies, but each and every one of us has surely experienced it firsthand.

And yet, most people rarely get to enjoy singing with others.

Because they don’t dare to, or because they can’t or don’t want to commit to a choir with regular rehearsals and performances.

What distinguishes the Embodied Impro Choir from a conventional choir is that

  • we, freshly assembled, forget what we think we know about our voices and experimentally engage with ourselves and each other anew
  • we involve not only the vocal apparatus, but the entire body
we disregard traditional vocal ranges, hierarchies, and patterns
  • we trust our own creativity and ability to improvise
  • we create our own improv pieces together within a 6-part cycle and develop versions of well-known songs that have never been heard before

Does that sound exciting?

Then come on by!

DETAILS

A choir series consists of six 90-minute sessions. The upcoming series starts on January 17, 2026, and takes place at Sarasvati Yoga at Bundesallee 53 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf.

We begin each session with an extensive full-body and vocal warm-up that pleasantly invigorates you from head to toe, frees your vocal apparatus, and activates your senses. Depending on the focus of the day, we then devote ourselves to creating improvised pieces together or working out our own versions of existing songs. Over the course of the cycle, we will cover different aspects of singing and improvising together, including rhythm, harmonies, intonation, nonverbal communication, etc.

Improvisational choir work is not only fun and reduces stress, but also strengthens your creativity, musicality, and confidence in dealing with other people, new situations, and the unpredictable.

Our practice room at Sarasvati Yoga is conveniently located and is only a few minutes‘ walk from Bundesplatz (Ringbahn, U7/U9) and Berliner Strasse (U7/U9) as well as several bus stops (M43, 143).

STILL QUESTIONS?

No. All levels and people of all ages are welcome. It doesn’t matter whether you have a lot of choir experience or none at all. The focus is on the desire to sing together, produce sound, experiment, try things out, and create something new together.

Every body can sing!

“Embodied” means that we involve the body in the warm-ups and while singing so that your voice becomes—in the truest sense of the word—bigger, livelier, and more present.

No! It is part of the Embodied Impro Choir concept that we learn the songs intuitively and playfully.

For those who like it, however, there are written memory aids for the lyrics here and there.

No! The choir is coordinated in German and, if necessary, bilingually in German and English.

It is sufficient if you understand one of the two languages and can communicate in it.

You can also imitate the lyrics by ear or take on a rhythmic or vocal part in the choir.

Music works beyond verbal language!

You are very welcome!

To avoid having to start from scratch every time and to ensure that trust is built for us to work together, there are no drop-ins.

However, there are a limited number of trial places available for the first session. Please use the registration form below to inquire about these if required.

I would like to thank everyone who registers for the entire cycle for their trust – without you, the organisation of the choir and rental of the space wouldn’t be possible! 🙂

The choir is constantly evolving, and you can join in for as many rounds as you like. Experienced choir members can extend their membership at a reduced price.

MAGDALENA - THE COORDINATOR

My main profession is as a body-oriented coach and teacher of functional movement, somatic movement forms, and yoga. In 2018, by a series of coincidences, I discovered somatic voice work, i.e., voice work that focuses less on performance and correct singing technique and more on one’s own experience and the positive interaction between body, sound, and psyche.

Since then, I have been continuously educating myself in this field.

In addition, I have been composing songs since I was 14 and am interested in music of various genres from all continents and eras.

A complete CV and overview of my qualifications and lifestyle can be found here.
